Adulting

Why were we in such a hurry to become adults?

We’re all in a rush to grow up, be independent, live on our own, take life as it comes.

But if you think about it, adulting is like building a DIY piece of Ikea furniture that came without the manual

Those were the days…

When the only drama in our life was Miley’s friends finding out that she’s Hannah Montana.

But now, our own relationship issues can inspire any TV drama series.

When the only negotiation we had to make was with our sibling over a piece of chocolate.

Not for finances and salaries to pay the rent and phone bills.

When the only stress we had was choosing that one friend who would help us distribute chocolates on our birthday.

But now, all we can think of is that report we need to put in by end of the day and then spend time ‘de-stressing’.

When the only time we thought ‘No one understands me’ was when mom said no to that birthday party.

But all we do now is stream Netflix for hours, fantasizing lives same as fictional protagonists and feel the loneliest of the lot thinking only they understand us.

When the only urgency we had in life was to finish homework so that could watch our 7pm TV show.

Not, finish a presentation to rush into a meeting and then another, and another, and oh wait the day just got over.

When the only plan we made as a team was to steal the sweets mom had made.

Not a million plans for clients, deadlines, etc etc which now leaves no time for mom and well, our tummies are rounder than those sweets. So what’s the use of those now!

When the only loss we had to deal with was losing our teeth.

And now, we’re a mess because we lost loved ones with just an RIP message and no shoulder to cry on.

When the only baggage we ever had was the colorful one we carried to school,

Not the emotional, mental, physical and oh, the extra baggage your ex left you with.

We all wanted to be engineers, pilots, billionaires, chefs, artists and what not. We just wanted to grow up and live our ‘dreams’.

Little did we know that now all we would want to do is turn back time to the carefree days when mom dad had it all figured out and all we had to do was save that ice cream from melting too quickly!
